Trusted Builders in Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire

Building Services in Tewkesbury

We’re a building company based in Gorsley, working across Tewkesbury and the surrounding towns and villages in Gloucestershire, covering extensions, new builds, renovations and landscaping. A rear extension near the town centre, a new build on a plot towards Walton Cardiff, a renovation on one of Tewkesbury’s older properties: our in-house team runs the whole job, from design and groundworks through to the final coat of paint.

We’re based in Gorsley, and Tewkesbury and its surrounding villages are core territory for us, not somewhere we only visit occasionally.

House Extensions in Tewkesbury

An extension is usually the most cost-effective way to add space without moving house. Single-storey rear extensions, double-storey side extensions, wraparound extensions and kitchen-diners, with Building Regulations sign-off going through Tewkesbury Borough Council.

New Builds Near Tewkesbury

Most of the borough sits in the Severn Vale, and ground conditions can vary considerably from one plot to the next. Flood risk is an obvious consideration around the Severn and Avon, so on some sites drainage and flood assessments need sorting before the foundation design gets very far. Further east, plots closer to the Cotswolds National Landscape can come with tighter expectations around design and materials. We’ve built individual self-build homes and worked on small residential developments in the area.

Property Renovations

We take on renovation work across the full range of Tewkesbury’s housing, from modern refits and extensions to careful work on listed and timber-framed buildings around Church Street and the Abbey. For anything listed or within the Conservation Area, we work directly with the borough council’s conservation team to sort out consents before work starts.

Landscaping & Groundworks

Drainage gets more attention here than in most towns we work in, given how close much of Tewkesbury sits to the Severn and Avon. Patios, driveways, retaining walls, garden rooms, fencing and drainage, with any soakaways or sustainable drainage sized against the actual site. We cover Tewkesbury and villages including Bredon, Twyning, Northway, Walton Cardiff, Ashchurch and Priors Park.

FAQ's

Can you manage a new build from start to finish?

Yes. We run new builds from groundworks through to handover, using our own site team for groundworks and foundations, the structural frame, blockwork, roofing, and first and second fix, then bringing in the same trades for decoration and landscaping at the end. You deal with one point of contact throughout, not a rotating cast of subcontractors.

How long does a new build take from groundworks to handover?

It depends on the size and complexity of the build, along with any conditions attached to the planning approval. Once we have a full specification, we agree a realistic programme with you before groundworks start, so timescales are clear from the outset.

Can you help with the planning application for a new build?

Yes. We work with architects and planning consultants who know Tewkesbury Borough Council’s processes, and we handle pre-application discussions, planning conditions, and any requirements around flood risk or the Cotswolds National Landscape boundary that affect plots on the edge of town.

What is a turnkey new build?

A turnkey build means we handle everything, design, planning, construction and fit-out, and hand you a finished home ready to move into. There’s no need to manage separate contractors at each stage: we run the whole build under a single contract from groundworks to the last coat of paint.

What types of renovation do you carry out?

We take on full house refurbishments, kitchen and bathroom renovations, open-plan conversions, structural alterations and loft conversions, along with commercial fit-outs for retail, office and hospitality spaces. On period properties around Church Street and the town centre, we also handle the extra care that timber-framed and listed buildings need. Every trade runs in-house, from a single room to a full property strip-out.

Do you handle all trades in-house?

Yes. Our own team covers groundworks, structural work, brickwork and blockwork, carpentry, plastering, tiling, painting and decoration. For plumbing, electrics and heating we bring in vetted subcontractors who’ve worked with us for years and follow the same site standards. You still deal with us directly for every stage.

Do I need planning permission to renovate my home?

Internal alterations generally don’t need planning permission unless the building is listed. Anything structural, such as removing a load-bearing wall or changing the roofline, still needs Building Regulations sign-off. If the property sits in Tewkesbury’s Conservation Area or is listed, which covers much of the historic centre around Church Street and the Abbey, external changes will usually need consent from the borough council. We check this during the initial site visit, at no cost.

Do I need planning permission for a house extension?

In most cases yes, though it depends on the extension. Many single storey rear extensions fall under permitted development if they stay within size limits, but two storey extensions, anything at the front, or work on a listed building or in the Conservation Area will usually need full planning permission from Tewkesbury Borough Council. Properties near the Cotswolds National Landscape boundary can also have extra restrictions. We check your specific situation at the first visit.

What types of extensions do you build?

We build single storey rear and side extensions, wraparound extensions, double storey additions, and kitchen-diner conversions that open up the back of the house. Larger multi-phase projects, where we extend and reconfigure several rooms at once, are also something we take on regularly around Tewkesbury. Architectural drawings, structural calculations and Building Regulations sign-off are all handled by us from the start.

Will my extension need Building Regulations approval?

Yes. All structural changes need Building Regulations sign-off, regardless of whether planning permission is required as well. We handle this alongside the planning process, submitting the drawings and calculations and coordinating with the local authority building control team or an approved inspector at each stage.

What areas do you cover for house extensions?

We’re based in Gorsley, a short drive from Tewkesbury, and cover the town along with Bredon, Ashchurch, Twyning, Northway and the surrounding villages. We also work across the wider Gloucestershire area including Cheltenham and Gloucester. Get in touch to confirm we cover your specific location.

Do you handle the planning application and architectural drawings?

Yes. We work with trusted architects and structural engineers through our own design service, so you’re not chasing separate consultants yourself. We can take a project from initial consultation and feasibility right through to handover, or if you already have planning permission and drawings sorted, we’re happy to pick up the build from there.

Can you renovate a listed building?

Yes. We’ve worked on a number of listed and timber-framed buildings around Tewkesbury, including properties near Church Street and the Abbey. Listed building consent sits separately from planning permission and covers any work that changes the building’s character, inside or out. We liaise with the borough council’s conservation team before work starts, so you know exactly what’s permitted.
