Building Services in Newent

We’re a building company based in Gorsley, about four miles from Newent, covering extensions, new builds, renovations and landscaping across the town and the surrounding GL18 villages. A rear extension on one of the newer estates, a self-build on a plot out towards Oxenhall, careful work on one of the older properties near the town centre: our own team runs the job from design and groundworks through to the final coat of paint. Newent is on our doorstep, so we’re never far from site.

House Extensions in Newent

An extension is usually the most cost-effective way to add space without moving house. Single-storey rear extensions, double-storey side extensions, wraparound extensions and open-plan kitchen-diners, with planning and Building Regulations going through Forest of Dean District Council and managed by us on your behalf.

New Builds Near Newent

Ground conditions around Newent vary more than people expect, with red sandstone and heavier soils in different parts of the parish. Low-lying plots near the Ell Brook and the River Leadon can need drainage or flood checks before the foundation design is fixed. We look at all of this at the feasibility stage, so there are no surprises once groundworks start.

Property Renovations

Newent’s housing ranges from modern homes to timber-framed and Georgian properties around Church Street and the High Street. For anything listed or within the conservation area, we work with Forest of Dean District Council’s conservation team to sort out consents before any work starts.

Landscaping & Groundworks

Patios, driveways, retaining walls, garden rooms, fencing and drainage, with soakaways sized to the actual site. A good example is our resin driveway in nearby Dymock, finished in three days including groundworks and recessed manhole covers. We cover Newent and villages including Gorsley, Kilcot, Oxenhall, Dymock, Upleadon, Clifford’s Mesne, Pauntley, Kempley and Highleadon.

FAQ's

Can you manage a new build from start to finish?

Yes. Our own site team runs new builds from groundworks and foundations through the frame, blockwork, roofing and first and second fix, then on to decoration and landscaping. You have one point of contact throughout.

Can you help with the planning application for a new build?

Yes. We work with architects and planning consultants who know Forest of Dean District Council’s process. We handle pre-application discussions, planning conditions, and any drainage or flood requirements on lower-lying plots.

Do you handle all trades in-house?

Our own team covers groundworks, structural work, brickwork and blockwork, carpentry, plastering, tiling, painting and decoration. Plumbing, electrics and heating are done by vetted subcontractors who work to our site standards. You still deal with us directly at every stage.

Do I need planning permission for a house extension?

It depends on the extension. Many single-storey rear extensions fall under permitted development if they stay within the size limits. Two-storey extensions, anything at the front, and work on listed buildings or in Newent’s conservation area will usually need full planning permission. We check your situation at the first visit.

Will my extension need Building Regulations approval?

Yes. All structural work needs Building Regulations sign-off, whether or not planning permission is needed. We submit the drawings and calculations and coordinate the inspections.

What areas do you cover around Newent?

We’re based in Gorsley, about four miles away, and cover Newent and the GL18 villages including Kilcot, Oxenhall, Dymock, Upleadon and Clifford’s Mesne. We also work across Ross-on-Wye, Ledbury, Gloucester, Cheltenham and Tewkesbury.

Can you renovate a listed building?

Yes. Listed building consent is separate from planning permission and covers any change to the building’s character, inside or out. We speak to the council’s conservation team before work starts, so you know exactly what’s allowed.
